How it's calculated

The example school spends PKR 700,000 a month on salaries and PKR 300,000 on everything else, and the average student pays PKR 4,000 a month after concessions. PKR 1,000,000 ÷ 4,000 is 250, so it needs 250 students to cover its costs. With 260 on the roll it makes PKR 40,000 a month; lose eleven students and it is running at a loss.

Monthly costs

Salaries + everything else

What the school spends in a normal month, with annual costs spread across twelve.

Break-even enrolment

Monthly costs ÷ fee per student, rounded up

Rounded up, because a school cannot enrol part of a student.

Profit or loss

Students × fee per student − monthly costs

What this month looks like at today's roll.

It is a monthly view. It assumes an extra student costs little on top of today’s staff and rent, which holds until a class is full and the next student means another teacher or another room.

Questions about break-even enrolment

Your real break-even moves every month with enrolment, concessions and costs. See the owner's dashboard

It is the number of students a school needs for its fee income to cover its costs, at the fees it charges today. Below that number the school runs at a loss each month. Above it, each extra student's fee adds to the surplus, less whatever extra that student costs to teach.
